Welcome to today's post of two adorable sailboat baby quilts.
For the first quilt I was inspired by a vintage block I found in The quilter's Album of Patchwork Patterns by Jinny Beyer. The block "Sailboat", can be found on Page 56. The notations for the block are " source unknown, date unknown". How sad not to know who came up with this cute block.
The biggest change I made to the photo in the book was the orientation of the block. Above is the way the block was presented.
I felt the block better represented a sailboat when it was turned on point.
Below is a photo of how I used the block.
Each block is approximately 6.5" X 6.5"
With the block on point I sewed the rows together on the diagonal.
A blue border was added.
And the stray points were cut off before quilting and binding.
Finished quilt is 41" X 41", flannel backing, cotton batting and meandering quilt.
For quilt number two I had two goals, first something simple/quicker, and second I wanted to design a little flag for the top of the boat.
This time the block for the boat is 7.5" X 7.5", plus the flag and two half square triangle waves.
The finished quilt is 39.5" X 41.5". Flannel backing, cotton batting, meandering quilting.
(Sorry, my photos really read beige but the quilts have true white backgrounds)
Hope you enjoyed, thanks for stopping by,
MaryEllen
