Trip-Details

We had a wonderful trip to New England this month. We had a lot of rain but the colors were still beautiful!  These beautiful leaves are sure to be inspiration for another quilt.

One day was spent at the New England Quilt Museum in Lowell Massachusetts. A must see for anyone who loves quilts. I was lucky to see the Susan Carlson exhibit, and Salley Mavor exhibit. Also on view that day were works from local artists, items from the museums collection, and the museum library and shop.

See the New England Quilt Museum site for the latest information on what's going on.  NEQUILTMUSEUM.ORG

Details-Birds-Feathers

Not sure I can count this as a detail shot as I'm a bit far from the subject -- but I'm adding it anyway!  Bird Feathers!  We have a sweet mom duck who decided to have her nest in my flower box.  It is at window height so I have some close shots through the glass and around the blinds.   And yes I have a dead plant out there. I haven't dare to go outside to water it for weeks.

Here are detail shots using the crop feature on my camera.

Not sure how she plans on getting the babies out of the flower box?
Hopefully I can catch a photo of the babies when the time comes.

Details-Shadows

I love looking for interesting shadows.  I try to take shadow photos whenever I notice them. I like saving them for future ideas.  Shadows can make a great addition to art work, adding lots of depth and life to a piece. Or they may turn out to be an interesting design element.

This was a shadow from a bridge railing . I think it could make an interesting quilt block design.

Details-Wood Grain

Today's detail photo is an interesting wood step. I found this step while out for a walk and  loved the way the elements have worn the wood.  The deep cracks and peeling not only from being outside but from years of many feet.  Checkout the natural knot hole and how the grain works around it.
I hope to work the ideas I have from these wonderful texture soon into a quilt.

Details-Puzzle

Today's detail photo.

I had a really cute puzzle set out for people to work on after Easter dinner.  Today when I was packing up the finished puzzle I realized the back was an interesting line study. Maybe an idea for piecing or free motion quilting?

Details-Hydrangea

Today I'm starting a new personal challenge, Detail Photos.  I find many times when I'm working on a projects I need more information about the details. I've decided to use daily photos to help me focus on the small things around me.  My goal would  to incorporate more of these details in my work. Using the label feature on the blog I hope to be able to access this information as needed. I'm hoping these studies will not only help my work but add to my appreciation the the world around me.
